SaludHondu supports an on-going medical clinic, Clinica de Santa Maria, in Reitoca, Honduras. It is staffed by a physician, nurse, pharmacist, and facility caretaker. Over 600 patients are seen monthly, many of whom are children. The clinic serves not only the town of Reitoca, but also villages from outlying and remote mountain communities.
Additionally, we are implementing a health care delivery model throughout this region which has 50,000 residents. The model, known as Promotores de Salud [“Health Promoters”], has been developed, implemented and refined over the past 25 years in Guatemala. The Promotores volunteer to be trained and mentored to serve the health care needs of their respective villages and towns. The services which they provide can best be described as a blend of basic skills covering first aid, disease prevention, acute and emergency care, chronic disease care, and health education.
A delicious way to support Salud Hondu is by participating in the Annual Boston Butt Fundraiser sponsored by RW Weaver of Leland’s Family Pharmacy and, as always, proceeds go to the needs of the medical clinic, Clinica de Santa Maria. Our thank you for a suggested donation of $50 is a delicious, slow roasted 8 – 10 lb. Boston Butt (pork shoulder) along with a jar of homemade BBQ sauce and instructions for freezing and reheating if desired. For more information, contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
